MFA Nansen Somalia WASH Project 2023-2024
Nansen WASH project was a response to address the effects of Ukraine Russian war on the people of Somalia. The Ukraine war has had severe impact on the target population since they were already vulnerable and had not recovered from the Covid impact. Somalia, a country that has suffered from war, droughts, famine, and other issues like this, had negatively been impacted by the war in Ukraine. Baniadam working with NCA implemented comprehensive WASH interventions to increase water access among the target 7000 IDPs. This was achieved through drilling a new borehole, constructing a water storage tank with a capacity of 30m cubic, installing a water supply pipeline and installation of 5 water points at strategic sites so that the 7056 people could get water within the SPHERE Minimum standards of not more than 500m. As a result of the WASH interventions, over 7000 beneficiaries are accessing adequate and safe water for domestic use, sanitation coverage has equally improved and hygiene education levels among the beneficiaries has significantly improved
